Episode 6: From Awen to Empire

In this episode of Sturdy Oak, I reflect on the passing of Samhain as observed through the Coligny reckoning, sharing personal insights from this liminal time of endings and inward turning. From there, I step into a deeper exploration of the primordial masculine and feminine—those archetypal forces present in creation myths across cultures. What do these energies represent? How have they shaped the way we understand ourselves and the world? I also touch on the rise of Ancient Rome and its role in shaping a more rigid, patriarchal worldview, contrasting it with older, often more fluid expressions of balance between these forces. This episode is a personal foray into a complex and layered topic—an invitation to reflect, question, and listen more deeply to the patterns that still live within us and the world around us. Therefore, Blackberries are the perfect symbol of tenacity and rootedness. They won't be pushed around, and they won't go anywhere! If you've chosen this card, it's possible that you feel similarly buried and remain steadfast, owning your land and protecting everything you hold dear. It's also possibl...

The stillness of colder autumn days

Image
Hello and welcome. I hope you are well, wherever you may be. This weekend, the abnormal summer-like temperatures came to an end, and a grand Antarctic polar air mass blanketed the lands south of the Tropic of Capricorn—some of it even reaching the southern edges of the great Forest Mother, the Amazon. Temperatures dropped after intense rainfall that lasted for at least two days on end. Today (Mother’s Day Sunday), the sun has returned, and you can feel the polar air on your skin. These are days I cherish with all my heart. They bring me a deep sense of peace—a feeling that everything is in balance within me. The clear blue skies, the crisp air, and the gentle light of the sun come together to create a quiet harmony with the world. I feel that this kind of weather invites us to slow down, to take a step back, and to reflect on the blessings of the Earth. I have never been a fan of hot days—although I know many enjoy them. Colder temperatures have always made me feel calm and centr...

Episode 5: the veil is thin at Samhain

Image
Samhain marks a time of endings, remembrance, and connection with the ancestors. This year, it was accompanied by a powerful full moon in Scorpio, deepening the atmosphere of introspection and transformation. In the Northern Hemisphere, this same moment is reflected as Beltane—a reminder of the ever-turning wheel and the balance between descent and renewal. I’ve just recorded the fifth episode of Sturdy Oak, now available on Spotify, where I explore these themes in more depth. Drawing from the The Druid Animal Oracle and the The Druid Plant Oracle, the cards that emerged for this time were the Fox (reversed) and the Clover (reversed)—both inviting us to reflect more carefully on intuition, discernment, and the quieter blessings that may go unnoticed. You may have a special reason for celebration, or you may simply need to celebrate the wonder and mystery of being alive . In the Druid tradition there are occasions to celebrate every six weeks or so . As human beings, we need times when we can come together to enjoy each other's company. The bee tells us that we can live together in harmony, however impossible this may sometimes seem. By being at one with the natural world, by paying homage to the sun, by centring our lives around Spir...
